South Park Season 27 delay explained

There are a couple of reasons for the Episode 3 delay last week, the main one being that August 13 marked exactly 28 years since South Park premiered on Comedy Central. As such, the network cleared its schedule to celebrate the occasion.

This also gave Parker and Stone more time to work on the next episode. You see, the long-running series has always been made on an ultra-fast turnaround timeframe, with episodes written, animated, and voiced in just a matter of days.

When is South Park Season 27 Episode 2 out?

Why is South Park not on HBO Max?

This allows them to respond in real time to current events, but it also means delays aren’t unusual. We saw this happen withSeason 27 Episode 2, which arrived a week after it was originally planned.

One thing that likely won’t have had an impact is the backlash from the Trump administration (it’s hardly the first time Parker and Stone have come under fire).

While some, including JD Vance, insist they’re in on the joke, Kristi Noem slammed the creators for mocking her in the latest episode.

“It’s so lazy to make fun of women for how they look. Only the liberals and the extremists do that,” she said. Noem sidestepped the fact that the episode depicted her shooting every dog she came across (a reference to her admission that she shot her own pet dog as it was naughty).

The White House previously released a statement slammingSouth Park for its Trump PSA(which showed the POTUS’s “teen-tiny penis”), describing the series as irrelevant.

At Comic-Con 2025, Parker responded to the criticism with a deadpan stare, saying, “We’re terribly sorry.” The South Park creators went on to describe how they convinced the producers to avoid blurring the realistic penis in the show.

What will Episode 3 be about?

“Sickofancy”: Towelie goes to Washington, D.C.South Park’s 27th season continues this Wednesday, August 20 at 10/9c on Comedy Central and next day on Paramount+.pic.twitter.com/HVzao5ii4D

South Park Season 27 Episode 3, ‘Sickofancy’, will take shots at Trump once more, while bringing back everyone’s favorite stoner anthropomorphic towel: Towelie.

The trailer dropped on the day of release, showing Towelie arriving at Washington DC, where he sees the White House surrounded by a battle tank and army troops. “This seems like a perfect place for a towel,” he says in awe.

Clearly, Parker and Stone are poking fun at the POTUS’ abrupt decision to militarize law enforcement in the US capital. Earlier this month, he deployed hundreds of National Guard troops on the streets, asserting federal control over the city’s Metropolitan Police Department.

How will this play into South Park is yet to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: it reallyisn’tthe perfect place for a towel.
