Summary

After a long road of rumors,The Fantastic Fouris getting close to the start of filming, and theMarvel Cinematic Universemovie is the film that I have been waiting for since the start of the Multiverse Saga. I was one of the fans who was ecstatic when it was announced thatMarvel decided to expand with TV shows and other formats after the creation of Disney+. Sadly, while there have been some greatMCU TV shows, Marvel has not found the same groove on TV it had with films in the Infinity Saga.

Making matters worse, like many fans, I thinkthe MCU’s films during the Multiverse Saga have also been hit-or-miss, though I’m not really on the whole doom and gloom camp.Marvel Studios has plenty of exciting projectsthat could help build momentum for the MCU again, turning the current public image of the franchise around. Chief among them isThe Fantastic Four. For the first time ever, Marvel’s First Family will come to live-action in a film produced by Marvel Studios, andThe Fantastic Fouris the project I have waited many years for.

The MCU is bringing a new version of the Fantastic Four as part of its Multiverse Saga, and here’s what you need to know about this reboot.

The Fantastic Four Can Finally Be The Ideal Movie For The Team

Previous Films Fell Short For Different Reasons

Let me preface this by saying that I enjoyed the 2000s Fantastic Four movies. That said, both of them — and the lackluster 2015 reboot by director Josh Trank — are not exactly what I see as the ideal representation of the Fantastic Four on the big screen. Whilethe cast for the two Fantastic Four movies with Chris Evans as Johnny Storm was pretty much perfectfor the team, the movies felt like fun adventures that never got into the epic scale that Fantastic Four stories in Marvel Comics could get.

Adding to that, Doctor Doom was not as intriguing as he should have been, andFantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surferbutchered Galactus. Then came the reboot, popularly known asFANT4STIC. While I was genuinely entertained for the first twenty minutes or so of the film during the flashbacks, the movie would turn into a bleak affair with little action or fun. After the three live-action Fantastic Four films, the MCU can finally bring the ideal version of the team to life inThe Fantastic Four, and the updates from the film have me very excited about it.

The Fantastic Four Is The Kind Of Major Franchise That The Multiverse Saga Needs Right Now

The decision not to have an Avengers movie until the MCU’s Phase 6 after the end of the Infinity Saga is baffling to me.Marvel lost its biggest stars as Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. left, and instead of using its most famous franchise to make up for the losses, the MCU expanded all over the place. That led to smaller projects and many new characters being introduced, with few actually having a meaningful impact on the franchise or appearing more than once until now. However, Marvel is shifting course.

Human Torch concept artshowed the skyline of a retro-futuristic New York. Based on Marvel’s teases,The Fantastic Fourcould end up taking place in a new universe. I would very much like to see that, asone of my biggest issues with the Multiverse Saga is that it does not feel as expansive as it should. Having the Fantastic Four come from a new universe and escape to or get stranded in the MCU would make for a bigger exploration of the multiverse that I have been yearning for, and that makes me very intrigued byThe Fantastic Four.
