Summary
The title ofStar Wars: The Acolyteepisode 3 was the first to break with theStar Warsshow’s pattern, and the change signals what is to come. The Acolytetwo-episode premiereintroduced Mae and Osha, the newest Force-sensitive twins inStar Warsmovies and TV shows. The Acolyte’sfirst two episodes revealed that the twins had been separated by a mysterious tragedy at a young age, but only brief glimpses of the event were depicted.
Episode 3 ofThe Acolyte, titled “Destiny,” revealed significantly more information, not only about the twins but also about their complex and devastating origins. However, the title of this episode broke with the title patternThe Acolytehad established in the show’s first two episodes. While that could seem like a minor change, this difference is in fact a harbinger of things to come.

Has The Acolyte Episode 3 Broken Star Wars Canon?
The Acolyte episode 3 features a shocking twist that some fans insist breaks Star Wars canon completely. But is this really the case..?
Mae
The third episode ofThe Acolyte, “Destiny,” is the first episode title in the show that doesn’t reflect a dichotomy. The first episode was titled “Lost / Found,” and the second episode was titled “Revenge / Justice.” Notably, this dichotomy reflects two separate perspectives;presumably, this is reflective of the twins themselves. This especially makes sense, as each title includes a negative (found and justice) and a negative (lost and revenge), denoting a light and a dark, just as the sisters do.
The third episode ofThe Acolyte, “Destiny,” is the first episode title in the show that doesn’t reflect a dichotomy.

However, “Destiny” is a sudden and obvious deviation from this pattern, which is undoubtedly significant. The singular focus of the title suggests that the episode is just one twin’s perspective, distinct from the structure of the first two episodes, which jumped back and forth between Osha and Mae. “Destiny” seems to be solely from Osha’s point of view. The episode is done in flashback, revealing events that transpired 16 years before the mainAcolytetimeline on Brendok, one ofthe new planets introduced inThe Acolyteand the twins' home.
Not only does this episode show what Mae and Osha were like when they were young, but it also revealsbrand-new information about the Witches of Brendok, the newest Force-sensitive coven inStar Wars. Sadly, this flashback primarily shows the demise of the coven and the death of all the witches, including the twins' mothers, Mother Aniseya (who created them) and Mother Koril (who carried them). This episode is much more than it seems, though, as the death of the witches seemed suspicious at best.
The Acolyte Episode 3 Is All About Osha Choosing Her Destiny
As the title is “Destiny,“episode 3 is almost certainly Osha’s perspective. After all, while considerable backstory is provided in the episode, it is Osha who chooses her destiny during the episode—she elects to become a Jedi rather than stay with her coven and become a witch. However, the title change for this episode suggests that Mae’s perspective is impending, which will surely shed new light upon Osha’s point of view.
Initially, it seemed as though Mae killed everyone in the coven. This is what both Osha and Master Sol had said in the first two episodes of the show. However, the Jedi now seem to be the most likely suspectsin the deaths of the Witches of Brendok. In light of that, there is much more story to tell regarding this flashback.
There is much more story to tell regarding this flashback.
Presumably, Mae’s perspective is coming with an episode (and singular title) of its own. Given how suspicious the deaths of the witches were, it’s likely that Mae’s flashback will finally reveal what really happened to the Witches of Brendok. Interestingly, this may implicate the Jedi, which would have massive ramifications not only inThe Acolytebut also in the largerStar Warsfranchise.
WhileThe Acolytehas only released three episodes so far, this title change is notable. The full implications of the break inThe Acolyte’stitle pattern are yet to be revealed. However, based on the title and the plot points inStar Wars: The Acolyteepisode 3, it seems it’s only a matter of time before these disturbing mysteries are uncovered.
