Tesla cars will soon have a “robotaxi” mode that makes money for their owners
Tesla owners will soon be able to turn their cars into “robotaxis” to generate extra money for the owners, but there’s one catch.
Ever since the Elon Musk-owned company launched the Full Self-Driving beta back in 2020, Tesla has continued to innovate on its features.

It’s not been without its quirks, however, asTwitchstreamers have seen FSD fail while inside the car, almost causing accidents in the process.
On Thursday, April 24, Tesla revealed that owners will soon be able to turn their cars into “robotaxis,” but there appears to be a pretty major catch.

Tesla “robotaxis” come with a huge catch
If you own a Tesla and want to use full self-driving to turn it into a so-called robotaxi, the popular EV company says they’re already testing the service with employees in Austin, Texas, and the San Francisco, California area.
According to Tesla, they’ve completed over 1,500 trips and 15,000 miles of driving.

“This service helps us develop & validate FSD networks, the mobile app, vehicle allocation, mission control & remote assistance operations,” they said.
The catch is, however, that you may’t just send your Tesla out to go drive people around by itself. Full Self Driving still requires a human to be behind the wheel in case something were to happen.

After the news broke on Musk’s social platform, X, users flocked to the comments to share their thoughts.
“I wonder how long this feature will take to roll out,” one user said.
Another sarcastically replied: “Oh I would love to call my insurance company and add this to my policy. I’m sure it will be affordable.”
“I’m sure it will be fine. There is absolutely nothing wrong that could happen with that,” a third user commented.
