Summary

The final three seasons ofSuitsmake a strong case for whySuits: L.A.is a much better idea than a proper reboot. FollowingSuits’ astonishing streaming numbers in 2023, anewSuitsspinofffrom Aaron Korsh officially entered development in February 2024. ShouldSuits: L.A.be picked up for a full series, the spinoff is expected to premiere in 2025.The pilot stars Stephen Amell as Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who moved to Los Angeles to start his own firm alongside Josh McDermitt’s Stuart Lane.

Although someSuits: L.A.character descriptionshave been revealed already, not much is known about the show other than it will take place in an entertainment law firm from Los Angeles. Considering how popularSuitscontinues to be over a decade after it premiered, it can be disappointing that a spinoff is happening instead of a traditional revival. However, considering how the show ended, a spinoff may be a better approach than a reboot after all.

Donna and Harvey in Suits season 8

Suits’ Final 3 Seasons Are The Show’s Worst

Suits was in decline when it ended

Suits’ final three seasonsare the show’s weakest for multiple reasons. WhileSuitsseason 9 was an improvement compared to season 8, the show’s final three years were quite disappointing and proved it was time to end. Following Mike Ross’ arrest inSuitsseason 5, it seemed like there was not much left for the show to do.Mike’s secret had been the heart and soul of the legal drama since the pilot, meaning that having Mike arrested would be the beginning of the end forSuitsregardless of when it happened.

Suits’ record-breaking streaming success in 2023 surely plays a role in the conversation about whether the show should return.

Donna and Harvey in Suits' finale

I was disappointed thatSuitsseason 6 took Mike out of prison too fast, but I enjoyed seeing him fight to rebuild his life.Mike passing the bar was a natural conclusion for his character, yet it was not the end ofSuits. Season 7 felt like it was recycling storylines, whereasSuitsseason 8 had to incorporate the exits of Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle. Without Jessica, Mike, and Rachel,Suitswas no longer the show it once was. Although I enjoyedSuits’ series finale, my favorite moments from the show happened before season 7.

Suits Season 10 Could Be A Disaster Based On How The Show Ended

A Suits reboot could ruin the show’s perfect finale

Suitsseason 9 brought Mike Ross back sporadically and concluded Harvey and Donna’s romantic storyline that began in season 7. Between Mike and Rachel living in another city while running their legal clinic and Harvey and Donna’s marriage,Suitsgave all of its characters a satisfying ending. This is why I find it difficult to imagine whatSuitsseason 10or any reboot would be about. I believe the only way aSuitsreunion could work would be through a movie or a limited series that focused on just one case.

Suits’ Massive Netflix Success Reveals 1 Harsh Truth About The TV Streaming Era

Suits has found a new lease of life on Netflix, inadvertently highlighting a major problem with modern TV and the impact of streaming.

Suits’ record-breaking streaming success in 2023 surely plays a role in the conversation about whether the show should return. Five years after its series finale,Suitsis now arguably more popular than it ever was when it originally aired on USA Network. With a passionate fanbase and millions of people discovering for the first time on streaming, aSuitsrevival could indeed be a massive hit. Still, from a storyline standpoint, there would not be much for a reboot to explore unless it completely reinvents theSuitscharacters. As such, revisitingSuitsthrough a spinoff is the better option.

Suits’ LA Spinoff Sounds Like A Much Better Way To Revisit The Show

Suits: L.A. can be its own thing while referencing Suits

Although it is still too soon to say whetherSuits: L.A., which has yet to be officially picked up for a full series, will work, it sounds like a much better way to revisitSuitsthan a reboot.RecreatingSuits’ magic is difficult, but I’m excited to see a new lawyer show from the same creative team behindSuits. The upcoming L.A. spinoff can take everything that madeSuitswork and use it in a different context with new characters and storylines.Suits’ character dynamics were starting to become repetitive after multiple seasons.

Stephen Amell’s Ted Black has a connection to Harvey Specter, but I don’t expectSuits: L.A.to just mimic whatSuitsdid. While I loved the characters fromSuits, I also enjoyed the show’s humor and sharp writing, both of which can be brought back inSuits: L.A.Additionally,Suitsactors could appear inSuits: L.A.anytime since the latter is set to take place in the same universe as the former. Revisiting characters like Harvey and Mike through small cameos inSuits: L.A.would avoid ruining their character development, which is something that a reboot could do.
