Severance star just solved every fan’s biggest problem with the Season 2 finale
It’ll take a while to recover from theSeveranceSeason 2 finale, but one of the show’s stars, Dichen Lachman, has just put everyone’s biggest concern to rest. (Spoilersahead!)
The final moments of theSeverance finalewere nerve-wracking, to say the least. Innie Mark managed to get Gemma out, but before he could step out of the door himself and turn back into his Outie, Helly showed up.
What followed was a standstill, where Mark found himself torn between giving himself up for his Outie, or choosing to stay behind with Helly for an unknown fate in Lumon. He ended upchoosing Helly, leaving Gemma screaming his name behind the door.
Backlash against Innie Mark quickly intensified online, with many fans upset for Gemma, who they assumed wouldn’t know he was an Innie. However, Lachman just put that matter to rest.
Gemma knew Mark was an Innie during Severance S2 finale
Although fans rightly believed Gemma wasn’t up to date on what was going on in the outside world (I.E. she didn’t know Mark had severed himself during his period of grief), Lachman just confirmed that in those final moments, Gemmadidknow that she was looking at Mark’s Innie.
“I don’t know how much information she has about what else is going on in the building,”she said[via Variety]. “I think she just assumes or makes this realization that he’s severed, and these people are severed on the other side of that door.
“Someone earlier was saying, like, ‘Oh, it’s Mauer’s story, that he met someone else and moved on.’ But based on the interaction they have, I don’t think that’s really possible. I think the most reasonable way to interpret that scene is that she realizes he’s severed, and she’s just trying to get through to him.

“And for me, it’s just like, ‘Oh, that’s just the innie’s friend or maybe love interest.’ I don’t think there’s much time for her to think more deeply about that in that moment. It’s more just a realization.”
This will be a huge relief for many viewers, who responded with distress over watching Gemma’s panicked and emotional response to Mark walking away.
Soon after, he and Helly are seeing running down the hallway as the alarms and lights continue to go off. Their fate is unclear, since the Innies appear to now be in open rebellion against Lumon. But thankfully,Season 3is already in development to answer some of these lingering questions.
