Summary

Lokistar Tom Hiddleston knows what theMCU’s former God of Mischief is doing and what he’s feeling after theLokiseason 2 finale. After a long journey from villain to anti-hero to full-fledged hero throughoutLoki’s MCU timeline, Tom Hiddleston’s Norse god sacrificed himself to provide balance to the multiverse inthe epicLokiseason 2 finale. While Loki isn’t dead, he has abandoned every existing reality, possibly forever.

Speaking toVariety, Tom Hiddleston explains why Loki’s sacrifice is a perfect conclusion for the character, highlighting how Loki’s long-sought glory was always more of a burden rather than simple pleasure. The actor also confirms thatLoki’s new job protecting every timeline is indefinite, but also that he’s watching over everything that happens inside the timelines he handles. Tom Hiddleston’s Appearances as Loki in the MCU

“I feel very happy with the narrative conclusion of season 2. I feel like, as Mobius says, sometimes purpose is more burden than glory - and Loki’s found his purpose after all, which is to commit himself to protecting the lives of others by holding the timelines together. Where we go from here, I don’t know, I really don’t. He’s listening, he’s watching. That’s all I know for now.

How Tom Hiddleston’s Loki Can Return After Season 2

Loki’s Return Doesn’t Depend On How, But On Why He Would Come Back

It may be easier for Loki to return to action than it seems. In theLokiseason 2 finale, the God of Stories managed to step out into the unstable Temporal Loom and survive without protective gear due to his magic and sheer force of will. Loki linked his consciousness to each ofthe Sacred Timeline’s individual timelinesand reactivated them, keeping them from dying as the Temporal Loom broke down. Similarly,Loki could develop the ability to visit the timelines he holds, at least through astral projection or in the form of a magical hologram.

After hundreds of years feeling insecure about his life goals, Loki finally found his true purpose.

The main reason keeping Loki from taking part in future MCU stories isn’t his inability to leave the new Sacred Timeline. Instead, it’sLoki’s duty as the multiversal Yggdrasil’s protectorthat keeps him from intervening directly within any timeline. After hundreds of years feeling insecure about his life goals, Loki finally found his true purpose. It may have required Loki to sacrifice his freedom, but Loki clearly wouldn’t change his new duty for any other mission or adventure.

Loki Holds One MCU Record No Other Marvel Villain Will Ever Break

Tom Hiddleston’s time as Loki over the years sets up an MCU record that no other character may ever beat, based on the challenge it imposes.

Given Tom Hiddleston’s love for the character and the fact that Loki is alive, the possibility of Loki’s return will inevitably remain open. If Loki ever jumps back into action, the MCU would have to provide a strong justification for his return. The Council of Kangs' attack on all existing realities, Deadpool’s possible sabotage of Loki’s sacrifice, or a direct threat to Sylvie and Mobius are some of the reasonable explanations the MCU could use to justify Loki’s return after theLokiseason 2 finale.
