Summary
Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie’s sequel has not been confirmed, but I really want it to happen now that the film introduced my new favoriteMonkcharacter. Set 14 years after the original show,Mr. Monk’s Last Casebrought back thecast ofMonkfor a nostalgic reunion.Tony Shalhoub reprised his role as Adrian Monk, who was now retired and trying to make money to pay for Molly’s wedding. In addition to dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Adrian also had to work on a very personal case.
TheMonkmovie explored the character’s mental healthand showed how important Adrian’s detective work was to him. While all the characters had changed and were now in new stages of their lives, Monk was still the extraordinary detective from thebestMonkepisodes. Revisiting the Monk characters was great, but one of the latest additions to Adrian’s family excited me most about a potentialMr. Monkmovie sequel.

Mr. Monk’s Last Case Ends With Adrian Adopting A Dog
Mr. Monk now has his own Watson
Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movieends with Adrian finding out that Natalie secretly adopted a dog on his behalfand left it in his house for him to take care of. The dog, whose name is Watson, had appeared earlier in the movie when Adrian and Natalie were investigating an animal shelter. According to one of the employees there, Watson was an antisocial dog who struggled to fit in with the others. Watson had trouble seeing and got anxious every time other dogs or people were around him.
The idea of Adrian Monk taking care of a dog alone would makeMonk 2worth it.

As soon as Natalie heard about it, she said to Adrian“Look, Mr. Monk, it’s you.”The brief interaction between Adrian and the dog at the shelter was incredibly sweet and teased that Monk was eventually going to adopt Watson. Naturally, Adrian would have never done it, which is why Natalie went ahead and left Watson as a gift for him. Having struggled with OCD and social anxiety for a significant portion of his life,Monk would never have adopted a pet during the original series. However, afterMr. Monk’s Last Case’s ending, he was ready for it.
Monk originally aired from July 17, 2025, to June 15, 2025.

Adrian Taking Care Of A Dog Would Make Monk 2 Worth It
Monk having a dog would completely reinvent the character
The idea of Adrian Monk taking care of a dog alone would makeMonk 2worth it. Having watched all seasons of Monk more than once, I never even considered that Adrian was going to have a pet someday.Mr. Monk adopting Watson at the end of theLast Casemovie was a symbolic way of showing how much things had improved for himsince he helped give Molly and her late fiancé justice. Adrian Monk struggled with severe depression during the film and even considered taking his own life.
Monk 2’s Story Is Too Perfect Not Happen After Mr. Monk’s Last Case’s Sequel Setup
Whether a new Monk film will happen remains to be seen, but Mr. Monk’s Last Case’s ending perfectly sets up a sequel for the Monk reunion movie
It was only after remembering all the lives he helped as a detective that Adrian decided to go back to work. Although Mr. Monk was already showing progress in his OCD treatment at the end of the show after solving Trudy’s murder, the COVID-19 pandemic took a huge toll on his mental health. While I would be fine withMr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Moviebeing the end of the franchise, a sequel featuring Monk and Watson – a perfect combination of names – would be incredible. Hopefully, that was not the last we saw of Mr. Monk’s new friend.
