Summary

TheJurassic Parkfranchise is returning withJurassic World 4, but I’m not entirely convinced that the film will deliver on its most exciting promise. The first threeJurassic Parkfilms revolve around dinosaurs on Isla Nublar and then Isla Sorna, with each movie focusing on humans trying to evade unleashed dinosaurs. TheJurassic Worldmoviescontinue the franchise by turning Isla Nublar into a dinosaur theme park and introducing the idea of humans and dinosaurs coexisting.

WhenJurassic World 4was announced, I wasn’t too thrilled about the idea. I find it difficult for a reboot to do something the franchise hasn’t done already. The films have explored the dinosaur theme park, intelligent dinosaurs, coexistence, and sanctuaries. It seems like the franchise has covered it all with six films. However, there just might be some wiggle room to put an interesting spin on this reboot of the classic film, although I’m not entirely sureJurassic World4can pull it off.

Jurassic World 4 Rebooting The Franchise Makes 1 Decision Already Very Confusing

After the failure of Jurassic World: Dominion, the new movie is set to be a complete reboot. That complicates one crucial decision for the franchise.

Jurassic World 4’s Fresh Take Sounds Suspiciously Like Jurassic Park & Jurassic World

Is There Anything Left For Jurassic World 4 To Do?

According toVariety,Jurassic World 4promises to be"a completely fresh take launching a new Jurassic era, following three adults and three teens getting stuck on the Island.“However, we have already seen that film before—twice. This premise repeats the originalJurassic Parkand the rebootJurassic World.Jurassic Parkrevolves around setting up a theme park for dinosaurs on Isla Nublar. The main cast of characters becomes trapped on the island with the dinosaurs.Jurassic Worldtakes the story to the next level—Isla Nublar has finally become a theme park.

I find it difficult to believe thatJurassic World 4will somehow reinvent the franchise after so much has been done already.

Even the sequels have already done other interesting concepts and ideas. The Lost World: Jurassic Parkintroduces Isla Sorna, or Site B.Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdombrings the idea of dinosaurs and humans coexisting.Jurassic Park 3is a reinvention of the first two films, butJurassic World: Dominioncontinues the narrative of coexistence between dinosaurs and humansteased in previous installments. Therefore, I find it difficult to believe thatJurassic World 4will somehow reinvent the franchiseafter so much has been done already.

Jurassic Park Needs A New Angle, Not Jurassic World 4’s Idea

Jurassic World 4 Needs To Reinvent The Franchise

There is no hope forJurassic World 4to deliver a promising film without a refreshing new angle.EachJurassic Parkfilm makes its own statement about the relationship between dinosaurs and humans, even if some narrative points are a little repetitive. EvenJurassic Park 3, the least original film in the franchise, still has some unique commentary to provide on the intelligence of Velociraptors. Therefore,Jurassic World 4cannot just be a retelling of the first film with some alterations; it has to completely reinvent the franchise while staying true to the original film’s themes.

How Jurassic World 4 Can Copy The Original Movie’s Premise & Still Feel Fresh

What Comes After Coexistence Between Humans and Dinosaurs

Jurassic World 4is set to reboot the franchise once more, rather than act as a continuation ofJurassic World: Dominion. I wondered what the saga could possibly have to say after dinosaurs and humans learn to coexist until I realized there actually is one more avenue to explore: the idea of dinosaurs developing human characteristics. The premise would be similar to the concepts found inPlanet Of The Apes, except the dinosaurs do not have to enslave humans, especially sinceJurassic World 4is supposed to be a reboot, not a continuation.

The film could follow the premise of the originalJurassic Parkwith one new characteristic: science that leads to dinosaurs gaining human intellect.Jurassic World 4can introduce the idea of dinosaurs somehow developing human characteristics. That will raise the stakes infinitely, with humans initially attempting this science to potentially communicate better with dinosaurs or expand the world. Furthermore, this idea could potentially backfire on them if the dinosaurs become intelligent enough to overpower humans intellectually. And with a new cast of characters trapped on Isla Nublar, anything might happen.

Indominus Rex Explosion in Jurassic World

Regardless of how they choose to approach this film, one thing is for sure:Jurassic World 4must avoid caging dinosaursall over again. Without a fresh new angle forJurassic World 4, the film can’t reinvent the saga after the massively popularJurassic Worldtrilogy. A repeat ofJurassic Parkseems like a cop-out without any interesting ideas that could makeJurassic World 4stand out in the franchise. However,Jurassic World 4could still turn around if they add new stakes to the table, such as the possibility of dinosaurs gaining human abilities.
