Hercules live-action remake sparks “creative tensions” between Russo brothers and Disney
Hercules? Honey, you mean Hunkules. For the Russo brothers, the live-action remake shouldn’t actually be either, and that’s allegedly causing some “creative tension” withDisney.
After their explosive success withAvengers: Infinity WarandAvengers: Endgame, things have been a bit quieter for the Russo brothers of late (we’ll skip overThe Electric State). They’re coming back to Marvel withAvengers: DoomsdayandAvengers: Secret Wars, but they’re still a few years out yet.

Disney confirmed a live-action remake was coming in 2022, with Guy Ritchie initially attached to the project. For an unspecified reason, this fell apart, and it was the Russos who swooped in to save the day.
With Doomsday currently in production, it’ll likely be a while before we see any movement on theHercules remake– but thanks to “creative tension,” there’s another reason for potential issues too.

Russo brothers Hercules live-action take causes “creative tension” with Disney
Don’t panic! Thelive-actionHercules is still in development. However, accordingto Hollywood scooper DanielRPK, the director duo wants to takea different direction. “Creative tensions” have allegedly come from the Russos wanting to shift direction, focusing on the original movie’s villain Hades instead.
In fact, they even want to supposedly change the name to Hades too, echoing past Maleficent movies rather than a live-action Sleeping Beauty. However, Disney would allegedly prefer to make a faithful adaptation of the hit 1997 animation.

While we don’t know if these tensions are actually confirmed, we also don’t know if either party has reached an agreement. The last public update stated the Russos were still “waiting on a script,” with Dave Callaham of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings attached to write when the project first circulated online in 2020. Whether this is still the case remains to be seen.
