Girl goes super viral as boyfriend fails TikTok’s orange peel test

A woman has gone massively viral on TikTok and other social media platforms after her boyfriend failed the ‘orange peel test’ and had a bit of an argument with her.

Over the last couple of years, TikTok has become the launching point for a number of social media trends. Though, the most popular of these have often revolved around putting your relationship with your family or significant other to the test.

The‘moon phase’ soulmate testwas one of the most popular in recent years, as it looked to test the capability between yourself and your partner. However, there is a new one making the rounds and causing a bit of chaos –the orange peel theory.

The theory is pretty simple: you suggest to your significant other that you’d like an orange, and you see if they’ll peel it for you to eat it. So, when TikToker Shelbyywilfong asked her boyfriend, their subsequent failed attempt at the test was probably destined to go viral.

And, well, go viral it did – to the tune of 13.4 million views on TikTok and afurther7 million views on Twitter/X, in fact.

In the almost two-minute-long clip, Shelby suggests to her boyfriend that she’d like an orange, but he doesn’t fail off the bat. He throws her an orange and suggests that she should peel it herself. “Dude, ok, as if I don’t do enough. I’m being for real,” he says, much to her annoyance.

“Figure your life out dude. It’s not all about what your man can do for you, it’s about what you may do for yourself right?” he added, leading to a further argument. In fact, Shelby’s boyfriend even suggests he’s a “great” boyfriend for trying to make her peel the orange herself instead of helping.

The comments on both TikTok and Twitter/X were a little baffled by the whole thing, with many suggesting it was a “skit” or a scripted attempt at going viral.

Many who believed it to be true, though, were surprised by her boyfriend’s comments. “Not peeling the orange – ok, but the not that special was pretty uncalled for,” said one. “‘You’re not even that special’ run for the hills,” another added. “Please tell me this is a skit. If not, dump him,” commented another.

The TikToker hasn’t updated things and said if it was a skit or a real situation, but whatever the case, it seems like the relationship test isn’t going anywhere.
