The recently broadcast State of Play event in May 2024 revealed several upcoming games forPlayStationconsoles, as well as updates on titles that had been announced before. State of Play is Sony’s main event format for all things PlayStation and, every so often, the company hosts a short presentation focusing on games coming to PS5. Some State of Play events focus on a single title, while others are broader and present multiple titles and even news about hardware. This is expected to be a minor presentation for Sony ahead of its rumored participation during Summer Game Fest next week.

May 2024’s State of Play event did not focus on a single game and, instead, presented a wide roster of titles, from first-party products to those developed by partners. The event, which was announced this Wednesday, May 29, lasted around 30 minutes and brought updates on 14 PlayStation 5 and PS VR2 games, some of which are titles produced by PlayStation Studios and are due to be released for Sony’s consoles later in 2024. Among the games, there were a few titles that stood out, some of which had already been featured inPlayStation’s State of Play leakearlier today.

Silent Hill 2 Gets A Release Date During PlayStation’s State Of Play In May 2024

Survival Horror Classic Makes A Comeback This Year

Possibly the most noteworthy reveal of the presentation, the release date for the highly-awaitedSilent Hill 2 Remakehas finally been confirmed. The information was presented during Sony’s State of Play showcase in May 2024 which was broadcasted on the officialPlayStationchannel on YouTube. There has been some controversy surrounding thechanges made toSilent Hill 2 Remake. Nevertheless,the classic 2001 survival horror game is being remade for current generation consoles and finally received a definitive release date: June 01, 2025. In addition to the release, some new gameplay footage was also presented for the upcoming game.

A relevant reveal that occurred during the State of Play presentation in May 2024 was the announcement of aPC port of PlayStation’sGod of War: Ragnarok. The action-adventure game developed by Sony Santa Monica Studio was released back in November 2022 for both PS5 and PS4 consoles. Nearly a year later, the DLC known asValhallawas released for free, offering players a new roguelite-inspired approach to gameplay, where Kratos must overcome challenges throughout multiple runs set in procedurally generated levels. Now,PC players will be able to experience Kratos’ and Atreus’ most recent adventuresin ancient Scandinavia.

The release of God of War: Ragnarok for PC will see that players on the new platform have access to the base game itself, as well as the free Valhalla DLC chapter.

The announcement of the PC port forGod of War: Ragnarokduring the State of Play event follows Sony’s efforts to expand its audience and release several of its first-party PlayStation titles on the platform. Several Titles Got Updates, Though There Were Some New Reveals

In addition to the two aforementioned games, several other announcements were made during the event. The presentation brought forth updates on Capcom’sMonster Hunter Wilds. The action-adventure game will be multiplatform, with releases confirmed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, though it was one of the featured titles during the PlayStation State of Play. During the event,Capcom revealed the first full gameplay trailer forMonster Hunter Wilds. The footage showcased the upcoming game’s graphics, teased its story and new locations, and demonstrated some of the new gameplay mechanics – of course, new monsters were also highlighted.

The space-set PvP third-person shooter game known asConcord, which was announced back in 2023, was showcased during State of Play in May 2024, revealing more information regarding what players can expect in terms of gameplay. When the title developed by Firewalk was first announced, a short cinematic teaser was shown, but until now, it was unknown exactly what the game would look like. Now, more details about the game’s universe have been announced.Concord, which was announced for PS5 and PC, will arrive for those two platforms on August 23this year.

Concord’s gameplay announcement revealed that it is a 5v5 hero-based shooter, in which each character has unique abilities.

A new entry in theDynasty Warriorsfranchise was also shown for the very first time during the State of Play event.Dynasty Warriors Originswill continue offering the musou-based gameplay the series is known for.Marvel Rivalsalso had its PS5 port confirmed during the event, revealing the PvP game will make its way to current-gen consoles – the confirmation came alongside a trailer showcasing gameplay and several heroes. PS Plus Days Of Play Returns With Impressive Line-Up Of Classic PS2 Games

Sony’s Days of Play celebration is returning on May 29 with new PS4 & PS5 titles joining the games catalog alongside PSVR2 games and PS2 Classics.

Similarly,Until Dawnwill make its way to PS5 and PC in 2024. While the announcement is not new, State of Play served as the stage for the game to be shown in its enhanced form. A new entry to theAstro Botseries was also announced. Simply calledAstro Bot, the new game will arrive exclusively for PS5 consoles on September 6. Many other titles, likePath of Exile 2,Ballad of Antara, andWhere Winds Meetwere showcased with shorter trailers. All these games are lined up for release forPlayStationdevices either this year or the next.
