Summary
Andoractor Diego Luna teasesmoreRogue One: A Star Wars Storycameos in season 2 of the critically acclaimed Disney+ series, along with how the new episodes will change the perspective of the 2016Star Warsfilm. Season 1 primarily focused on Cassian Andor’s journey to the Rebel Alliance and acast of newAndorcharacters. Some of the exceptions include Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), and Ruescott Melshi (Duncan Pow), who Cassian meets in season 1 and who fights alongside Cassian at the Battle of Scarif inRogue One.
While speaking at ACE Superhero Comic Con 2024 (viaPopverse), Luna shared thatAndor’s highly-anticipated second and final season will feature more familiar faces fromRogue Oneas it seamlessly transitions into the film’s story. He also praised the series' showrunner and writer, Tony Gilroy, who also worked onRogue One, and whose work has been celebrated fora powerful and nuanced exploration of real-world issues through the lens ofStar Wars. Read Luna’s comments below:

I can tell you, Rogue One is coming, so there will be characters there that you will recognize. There will be cool stuff. For those who love Rogue One, this season is going to be very special. And it’s going to be fascinating to go straight to Rogue One after watching this second season, because you will see Rogue One from a different perspective. I promise you that.
It’s fantastic. The only thing I can tell you is what happens at the end. It’s the world upside down. That’s the only thing you don’t talk about in an interview, but here we all know what the end is. I can tell you one thing, Tony Gilroy is a fantastic writer, and he created amazing characters that we got to meet in Andor season one. It’s going to be a very rich second season, because all those stories matter today. It is a true ensemble piece. It got very complicated in season one, and everything has to get resolved. Every story matters.
Andor Season 2 Promises To Directly Set Up Rogue One
Andor’s Final Episode Could Be Set Right Before Rogue One Begins
Set five years before the events ofRogue One,Star Wars: Andorseason 1’s episodeswere divided into arcs that took place during the course of the first year. Season 2 is taking a faster-paced approach by having each three-episode arc take place during each of the four remaining years leading up toRogue One. This will allowthe final three-episode arc and the series finale to lead directly intoRogue One.It may even directly precede Cassian’s first appearance in the movie, when he meets his informant Tivik on the Ring of Kafrene.
InRogue One,Tivik learned about pilot Bodhi Rook defecting from the Empire due to his knowledge of a planet killer, which is the Death Star.
Tivik tells Cassian about the Death Star, and Cassian has to kill Tivik to escape. With Cassian just joining the Rebellion at theend ofAndorseason 1, season 2 needs to show him climbing through the ranks of the Rebellion. It also needs to show himgetting to a point where he would be willing to kill an ally like Tivikand feel that it is justified, making Tivik (Daniel Mays) aRogue Onecharacter who would fit in well withAndorseason 2.
Exploring Cassian’s history with Tivik will provide a new perspective on their shared scene inRogue Oneand will likely make it far more devastating to watch. AnotherRogue Onecharacter who must appear inAndorseason 2is K-2SO, the reprogrammed Imperial droid who Cassian works closely with inRogue One. While their first meeting is depicted in a one-shot comic, this will probably be overwritten, withtheir meeting and the early years of their relationship making their fates inRogue Oneeven more emotional.
Andorseason 1 is available to stream on Disney+, while season 2 is expected to premiere in 2025.
