Dave Bautista needs your help to get Gears of War movie made

Dave Bautista has a message for Netflix regarding the streamer’s proposed Gears of War movie, while he also has a request for fans of the game.

Dave Bautista is no stranger to big, expensive sci-fi, having starred in the likes ofDune, Blade Runner 2049, and theGuardians of the Galaxy movies.

But he’s also a gamer, and has made no secret of the fact that he wants to star in an adaptation of Epic’sGears of War.

Netflixacquired rights to the title in 2022, and now Bautista has a message for Gears of War fans, as well as the streamer.

Dave Bautista has a message for Netflix about Gears of War

When asked about a Gears of War movie by comicbook.com in the below video, Bautista calls on fans to organize a petition, saying: “Start an online thing about freaking Gears of War. Come on, Netflix. Come on already.”

He adds that he’s also been active in trying to get the project off the ground, adding: “It’s not like I’m not badgering them. Come on, Netflix. Get it together.”

John Spaihts – who co-wrote the Dune movies as well as Passengers and Prometheus – is currently responsible for the Gears of War script, stating when he got the gig: “Gears of War is one of the all-time great action games, with vivid characters, a beautifully designed world, and a combat system that drives home the lethality of war and the importance of standing by your squad-mates.

“It wants to be cinema, and I’m thrilled to have the chance to help that happen.”

While the game’s creator Cliff Bleszinski is keen for Bautista to star, previouslytweeting: “Bautista as Marcus please.”

Meaning the ball is very much in Netflix’s court right now. But before anything happens on that front, Bautista will be seen in George R.R. Martin’s adaptation In the Lost Lands for director Paul W.S. Anderson, which hits screens on Jun 11, 2025.
