Summary
Chicago P.D.star Jason Beghe, who portrays Sergeant Hank Voight on the police drama, has expressed interest in seeing the intelligence team grow going into season 12. Many important team members who work in the 21st District have left the show in recent seasons, such as Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) exiting in season 10, and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) departing in season 11. Because of how many roles are left to fill on the team,Chicago P.D.season 12has an opportunity to introduce new characters to flesh out the cast.
Speaking withScreen Rantabout the upcoming movieReverse the Curse,Beghe expressed interest in seeing more characters get introduced inChicago P.D.going forward. The actor explained how he believes there should be more people within the Intelligence Unit, but also says he can’t guarantee how things shape up moving forward. Check out what Beghe had to say below:

Yeah, I’m hoping, I’ve been talking to the writers, and I think that would be nice. But, I can’t guarantee anything at this point. But yes, we do need some people.
Why Chicago P.D. Needs A Bigger Team In Season 12
Many Characters Have Recently Left The Team.
While this allows for the team to be small enough for audiences to grow attached to everyone, it could make storylines too circular because nobody new is entering the fold.
TheChicago P.D.season 11 finaleinvolved Voight taking down a serial killer who’d killed a teenager, Noah, that he’d previously grown attached to. This hinted at a return to form for his characterbut was also accompanied by Upton leaving the show, someone who had grown to be one of his most trusted confidants in the latest seasons. Because of how much he’s lost, it would make sense for the show to introduce new characters he could grow attached to, offering him an engaging character arc in the process.

The show also needs a larger team in general, as season 11 ends with only six main characters left. While this allows for the team to be small enough for audiences to grow attached to everyone, it could make storylines too circular because nobody new is entering the fold. Introducing new faces to the teamcan help add to the dramatic stories being toldwhile also allowing opportunities for different character interactions to spark interesting dynamics. This is especially true for Voight given everything he lost last season.
Voight’s Chicago PD Season 11 Finale Fate Sets Up Antonio Dawson’s Return
Hank Voight is in serious danger in the Chicago PD season 11 finale and it paves the way for Jon Seda to finally return as Antonio Dawson.
The show could also come up with a compromise by promoting some of its current recurring characters to main cast status in season 12. This wouldopen the door for characters like Makayla, Nina, and Patrick to get more screen time, while also offering different team dynamics that could build new story foundations for the next batch of episodes. Since Beghe wants more team members to be introduced inChicago P.D., there are plenty of ways this could happen to help bolster the newest season.
