Borderlands 4 finally lets you mute Claptrap – but fans think it’s a prank
Claptrap has been part ofBorderlandssince day one – a one-wheeled robot known for loud jokes, endless chatter, and intentionally annoying energy. Now, for the first time, you can finally shut him up.
Sure, he may be a staple in the Borderlands series, but it’s hard to deny just how irritatingClaptrapcan really be. Of course, it’s mostly by design, but that hasn’t stopped players from finding him infuriating with his endless quips, constant comments, and insistence on following you around.

However, soon this will all be over, as a major new feature has been revealed byChadly on X. Borderlands 4 will finally feature a dedicated volume slider just for Claptrap to help players adjust how loud he is throughout the game, or just shut him up entirely.

Naturally, players were thrilled with the change, commenting: “Thank God. I think most people are tired of him,” one player wrote. Others were quick to celebrate, exclaiming, “they cooked” and “Gearbox god damn cooked with this game.”
Not everyone wants him silenced, though, and some fans even joked that the volume slider would end up cranking him up instead, in true Claptrap and Gearbox style.

“They should have made it so the lowest was 110%,” one user joked. Another added, “Goes up to 1000%, which you’ll just hear cursed, blown out reverb meme-quality audio.” And the most chaotic take of all: “Plot twist: it doesn’t actually affect how loud he is.”
It wouldn’t be unheard of to see Borderlands implementing a funny setting that actually makes Claptrap more annoying, but whether it’s a joke or for real will be revealedwhen the game releases in September.

In fact, one of the game’s developers evenquoted the post on X, explaining that they “wrote some lines just for this feature and it includes maybe the dumbest most niche reference to a certain terrible accent in a certain classic immersive sim.”

If that post makes one thing certain, it’s that this new feature may not be what fans expect, especially if they want to silence Claptrap for good.
